5 Tips to Maximize Your Iron Mountain Hot Springs Visit

Spending time at Iron Mountain Hot Springs should be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Make the most of your next visit with these essential tips.

Our reservation system for soaking, implemented during the pandemic, has become so popular that it’s here to stay! It helps us manage capacity and improve the guest experience. If you have a specific time-of-day preference for hot springs soaking, be sure to schedule your reservation well in advance. Keep in mind, weekends, holidays and evenings tend to sell out quickly and be the busiest. If you prefer a serene, less crowded experience, consider booking in the morning. For sun-loving guests, afternoons are typically blue-sky beautiful, though summertime thundershowers do occasionally roll through. A geothermal soak in the evening is a relaxing way to cap the day but be prepared for bustling locker rooms near closing time. No matter what time of day your visit, remember to follow bathing etiquette, be friendly and share the pools with other guests.

Timesaving Tips

Make the most of every minute by arriving early and coming ready to soak! Plan a little extra time ahead of your soaking window to go through admissions and sign Iron Mountain Hot Springs’ waiver. You can also print out the waiver and have everyone in your party sign it to save even more time! Other options for increased efficiency include coming dressed in swimwear and only bringing minimal gear so you can skip the locker rooms and head straight for the pools, though lockers are available to rent for just $2.

Bring Your Own Towel

Save a few bucks by bringing your own towel. Pack it along on your road trip or ask your Glenwood Springs hotel if they have towels you can take to the hot springs. If you forget, don’t worry. Iron Mountain Hot Springs sells pool towels for just $5 and plush logoed towels are available for purchase in the gift shop.

Tips For Staying Hydrated

Geothermal water feels fantastic. It teases tension from tired muscles and helps you relax from head to toe but soaking can be dehydrating. Drinking plenty of water is essential for wellbeing at elevation, especially while enjoying hot springs. To help you feel your best throughout your stay, we encourage guests to bring an empty water bottle and refill it often with chilled water at hydration stations located in the bathhouse. The Sopris Café also sells a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. Another way to beat the heat quickly is with a cascade of cool water. Outdoor showers operated by a pull chain provide a bracing refresh after soaking.

Soak Around

Iron Mountain Hot Springs features 16 soaking pools, each one a different shape and temperature. The pools range in temperature from 98˚ to 108˚F. Though you’ll likely have your personal favorites, try to sample the various pools especially if you are a first-time visitor. In addition to the soaking pools, Iron Mountain’s freshwater family pool is ideal for cooling off, splashing with the kids or watching them play while you soak in the elevated jetted pool that overlooks the family pool.
