07 Nov Veterans, We Salute You
Veteran’s Day is set aside as an opportunity to honor and thank the men and women who have served in our armed forces. Iron Mountain Hot Springs partners with the Western Slope Veterans Coalition to provide discounted admission to military personnel so they can soak and relax every day of the year.
Did you know less than one percent of the population of the United States volunteers for military service? The few that do, willingly place themselves in harm’s way to protect, defend and serve our country in a variety of capacities. They are our heroes. On this upcoming Veteran’s Day, along with a grateful nation, Iron Mountain Hot Springs salutes all veterans who have served our country for their commitment, bravery and sacrifice.
To honor those, past and present, in our nation’s five branches of the military—the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard—Iron Mountain Hot Springs partners with the Western Slope Veterans Coalition. The resource center in Glenwood Springs, located at 803 Colorado Ave., which is named after local veterans Jesse Beckius and Casey Owens as a way to personalize the facility and remind the community that the scars of war are not always obvious. Along with regularly scheduled weekly gatherings, it is a hub for information, action, programs and activities that support, honor and connect veterans in the Roaring Fork and Eagle valleys.
Many veterans return to civilian life with wounds that are easily visible and some that are not like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an all too pervasive repercussion of battlefield service. In gratitude and support for their sacrifice, Iron Mountain Hot Springs works in partnership with the Western Slope Veterans Coalition to offer discounted admission to veterans as a way to encourage them to enjoy themselves by relaxing in the 16 soaking pools that range in temperature from 99°F to 109°F. The hot springs water combined with the natural riverside setting and laid back atmosphere can go a long way to soothing both body and mind.
Veterans often suffer in silence with as many as 22 committing suicide every day, a devastating figure. Many find it difficult to ask for help or don’t realize that it is available locally. If you are or someone you know is a veteran suffering from mental or physical trauma due to military service, please reach out to the Western Slope Veterans Coalition today which offers an abundance of resources. To receive a discount at Iron Mountain Hot Springs, just show your military identification to the cashier at the admissions desk.
To all who have served, thank you and Happy Veteran’s Day.
PLEASE NOTE: Iron Mountain Hot Springs offers a 10% military discount at the Sopris Café and Gift Shop. Military discounts are not available for reservation tickets.
